Why the Carry Shelf is Raised
Traditional cardboard ten-frames force students to mentally imagine "carrying the one." In the StackCalc system, the carry position is physically elevated by 4.5 mm on an upper shelf. The act of "carrying a ten" is a literal, physical motion that builds motor memory.
Step-by-Step Setup Instructions
Setting up the early numeracy workstation.
Place the 3x1 Gridfinity tray (123.0 × 39.8 mm) flat on the school desk. The solid base prevents slide and tipping during rapid student placement.
The lower stage presents 10 square Gridfinity miniblock sockets organized into two rows of five: Row 1 (numbers 1 to 5) and Row 0 (numbers 6 to 10). Column 5 contains the dedicated CARRY socket.
For two-tier addition (tens and ones), stack the secondary shelf (numbers 11 to 20) on top of the base tray using the standard Gridfinity stacking lip (1.8 mm rebate).
Each 19.0 mm counter features a bottom base plug on Side A (seating into tray sockets) and a top stacking socket with debossed concentric tactile micro-grooves on Side B, allowing vertical stacking for multi-addend problems.
