Fraction Studio Mechanical & Stacking Guide
Engineered with authentic 0.5U Gridfinity interlocking base plugs and top stacking sockets. Learn how the mathematical cancelation theorem ensures zero-error vertical proportionality.
Step-by-Step Stacking & Alignment Video
Watch authentic 3D printed towers nest cleanly with zero mesh intersection on a classroom desk.
The Subtractive Joint Theorem
Standard toy stacking blocks lose height at every joint because pins sink into sockets without compensation. Fraction Studio eliminates this:
Nesting depth: d_socket = 1.85 mm
Joint cancelation: d_socket - d_socket = 0.00 mm
Because the 1.85 mm bottom base plug drops completely into the 1.85 mm top stacking socket, every block contributes exactly \(84.0 / n\text{ mm}\) of visible vertical height.
Step-by-Step Tabletop Setup
Follow these instructions for stable classroom operation.
Place the base block directly on any flat school desk or tabletop. The chamfered 19.0×19.0 mm bottom footprint provides steady contact with zero wobble. Zero loose wooden trays or specialized boards are needed.
Align the front debossed fraction label (e.g. \(1/2\)) facing the student. The 4 faces provide continuous multi-notational mapping: Front = Fraction (\(1/2\)), Right = Decimal (\(0.5\)), Back = Percentage (\(50\%\)), Left = StackCalc RPN notation.
Lower the upper block vertically into the top stacking socket of the lower block. The 45-degree lead-in chamfers naturally guide the block into position with a satisfying slip-fit (0.20 mm bilateral clearance).
When building equivalent towers (such as two halves or four quarters), run a fingertip across the tops. The combined towers will be coplanar with the Whole tower within ±0.05 mm.
For objective classroom verification without rulers, place the storage box behind your towers. The laser-sharp debossed scale provides direct waterline readouts for \(0, 1/6, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6, 1\).
